Catching the best fish for the job in four steps

Catching a Fish

  1. Pick a spot to fish. Have you had luck here in the past? Are you choosing the right conditions for the fish you want to catch? You won’t find a halibut in a lake!
  1. Make sure it’s an appropriate time. Are the waters still and quiet? If not you may have a hard time keeping your catch on the line.
  1. Pick the best bait. A natural bait is the easy route. But you may want something with a little more flare like a colorful lure to make yourself stand out!
  1. You’ve got a bite! Time to reel it in! Timing is key. If you don’t act fast and use proper technique you may lose the fish early.

Hiring a New Employee

  1. Decide on the best place to look for new hires. Have you had luck on certain sites before and are you filtering your search? Do your peers have any recommendations?
  1. Make sure now is a good time to hire. Is there someone available to train this new employee? Maybe you need to wait for a big project to wrap up so you have more time to focus.
  1. Decide on the incentives. Pay is the obvious bait in this situation, but what else can you use to incentivise potential new hires? Ask yourself what makes your company special. That’s your selling point.
  1. You have an interested candidate who is ideal. It’s time to seal the deal!  Make sure you stay consistent in your communication with your potential new hire. Avoid leaving them waiting for a response or next steps. They may become disinterested, or more interested in your competition’s bait! Reel them in.
